Blooming Stuff

So here we are, back again. And a new book - Sailing Alone: A History, by one Richard J King. Oh, it’s terrific. I liked this of one of the early solo mariners: "Mr Shackford, having the misfortune of discontent with his wife," it begins. Haw.
Of course, occasionally I drag myself away from my book, to listen to a podcast (ie fall asleep) or skim the news. India and Pakistan are getting all arsey with each other. I’m sure everyone’s much too sensible to let that get out of hand. Responses must be proportionate, unless you actually want to win a war of course, where overwhelming force is usually a better way to ensure victory. It is nearly VE Day after all.
