Faroe Islands
Today finds us visiting the beautiful, wild Faroe Islands, a remote and isolated gathering of 18 islands, and a self-governing part of the Kingdom of Denmark. We are docked in the capital city of Tórshavn, and this morning we took a very scenic tour of the surrounding countryside with it's towering hillsides, tumbling waterfalls, cliffs, quaint little villages, and lots and lots of sheep and lambs. In the four hours we were out, the weather ranged from dense fog to bright sunshine, and everything in between!
In the collage from left to right, top to bottom: Two of the many hundreds of sheep which call the Faroes home, Gjógv Village with its charming traditional architecture and beautiful natural harbour, some stunning scenery showing some of the twisting switchbacks our bus driver bravely navigated, and a dramatic pair of sea stacks locally named the Giant and the Hag.
