First Day in Dundee

An easy one hour train ride from Aberdeen and we are ensconced in the Malmaison.  It was originally built in 1899.  Much of the hotel is modern now but the grand staircase is still intact and beautiful.  After lunch, Henry and I walked a short distance to Discovery Park to see the RRS Discovery and tour the amazing museum along side.  Henry, true to form, scrambled aboard for a better view.  I’ve added another collage of details in the museum.  The Discovery was built in Dundee and launched in 1901.  Earnest Shackleton was on board and would later lead the famous expedition on the Endeavor.  The ship was lost but Shackleton was able to save the entire crew. It was a wonderful introduction to Dundee and Henry wanted to pass on something he learned in the museum.  “Roasted penguin tastes like rotten fish!”  Thank you Henry. So glad we are both vegetarian!  My Perthshire friends are collecting me tomorrow for a visit to Glamis Castle and I told Henry he must be on his best behavior.  Our gorgeous weather is to continue!
