Langoureth
I was keen to go back and see this one completed. I spoke to Shauna at the weekend and she explained that her theme was Glasgow Myths and Legends.
Now I see it complete it all makes sense with the connection to the Glasgow Coat of Arms. Shauna tells the story here -
"Langoureth was the Queen of Scotland who was a bit naughty. She gave her lover a ring from the King. When the affair was discovered, the King killed her knight and threw the ring into the Clyde.
The next day, he demanded she wear the ring to a party. Desperate, Langoureth turned to St Mungo, Glasgow’s patron saint. He sent a man to the river—and from the mouth of the first fish caught, the ring appeared!
This piece shows Langoureth, a little worse for wear from a night searching the Clyde.
The “Fish That Never Swam” is one of St Mungo’s four miracles on Glasgow’s coat of arms."
