A day in the life

By Shelling

Weardly wired

A Thursday has passed, mostly uneventful. Some cutting of grass, some computer work, some sitting in the sun, sheltered from the chilly wind.

Until five o'clock, when I drove to work in Nybro (Newbridge), the next town south of Kalmar. I'm going to be the sound technician for a concert on Sunday with the local male-choir. Today was rigging day, tomorrow is the dress-rehearsal and Sunday is the concert. I'm bringing my own mixer because I don't have time to learn how the stationary mixer work, therefore I took pictures of how the cables were placed on the stationary so that I can put them back in the right hole after the concert.

There's always a number of unknown factors in a new place with a stationary speaker system so I am usually quite nervous before I get everything to work. This time it was very tricky and I still don't know if we got it right. Usually you put one cable in a hole and the other one in a speaker and after that is done, it works. But, what if there are stationary cables that disappears up in the roof and comes down on the other side of the stage? Lots of them, and you don't know which cable goes where.  That's what me and the light-guy was trying to figure out for two hours, and we're still not sure if it's right. We'll be there early tomorrow to check the connections. The light-guy had his problems with the mixer for all the individual lamps being in a mess and some of them not working at all. I hate it when there are so many unknown factors and no one to ask. It's ok if there is plenty of time but in this case, there isn't.
Help me holding thumbs for tomorrow at six thirty, when the dress-rehearsal begins.
