VE 80th Anniversary Wreaths
A beautiful sunny day again, hitting 18⁰c, which is superb for Shetland in May. A lovely calm sunny evening.
A day working with Craig. We were on bulk waste removals from Lerwick and Scalloway first thing then oil waste collections from eateries in Lerwick. An afternoon painting the yellow parts on litter bins. Walkies with Sammy after work, popped by Madeline's. I had to cancel my peat bank this year, due to a knee injury last week. My cousin is getting me machine cut peats, so my evening was spent in the garden instead. Another walk before bed.
With Victory In Europe Day (VE) 80th anniversary, events are held across the country, including here in Shetland. I sadly missed our local ceremony in the village. Down at the Shetland Bus Memorial, the Norwegian ambassador gave a speech, along with the Norwegian naval vessel KNM Storm in the harbour. Local men, Aubrey Jamieson and Charlie Grant, gave speeches too, and laid wreaths to mark the loss of the 44 men in the bus operations. A very poignant ceremony, sadly with the current state across the world, we as humans never seem to learn. Sammy (not looking), at the Shetland Bus Memorial, Main Street, Scalloway.
