There are about 1,000 known in the St Just mining district. I spoke the other day to an ex miner who reckoned there might be 1,500 all told. I can remember, more than 40 years ago, walking on Rosewall hill where you needed to steer clear of the little patches of not-ground surrounded by falling-down fences.
