Arthur and Gladys' Wedding Day

Orla and Conor's Grandad's parents were married on 19th February 1944. There was an article in the Sevenoaks Chronicle:

Otford Wedding
Gunner A. L. Jackson — Miss G. E. Cobbold

The wedding took place at Otford Parish Church on Saturday of Miss Gladys Ellen Cobbold, third daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Cobbold, of “Homecroft,” Rye‐lane, Otford, and Gnr. Arthur Leonard Jackson, R.A., son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jackson, of Harrow, Middlesex. The Rev. A. E. Elder officiated and the hymns sung were “Lead us Heavenly Father, lead us,” “The King of Love my Shepherd is,” and “Love Divine, all loves excelling.”

Given away by her brother, Mr. Albert Cobbold, the bride was attired in white crepe-de-chine, with embroidered veil held in place by a wreath of orange blossom, and carried a white Prayer Book.

She was attended by her sister, Miss Joan Cobbold, who wore a white organdie Victorian-style dress embroidered with flowers, with trailing green and yellow ribbons. Her head-dress consisted of ribbons to tone with her dress and she carried a white Prayer Book. She also wore a string of pearls.

Mr. Frederick Yerrell, brother-in-law of the bridegroom, was best man. The bridegroom’s gift to the bride was a handbag, while the gift of the bride to the bridegroom was a gold signet ring.

As the couple left the church they were presented with a lucky horseshoe of silver leaves and white ribbon by Master Neil Wickens, aged two and a half years.

Some 25 guests attended the reception held at Donnington Manor.
