21 years later…
We’re back. Twenty-one years ago (give or take 5 months) we came to Sorrento in the October holiday. Himself had just retired; I was still teaching. We booked a package with Citalia, travelled via Gatwick, arrived in the dark.
This time, we were gettingup in the dark of 3.30am (actually, dawn was breaking) to drag our cases across roads to Glasgow Airport T3, where JetTwo holds sway. From then on we were off to T2 feeling cosseted and privileged by the ubiquitous help, and back to T1 to wait for boarding. We had an occasionally dramatic ( the Alps! ) flight to Naples, and a charming driver who indulged my Italian and was very proud of his suave Alfa …
I’ve been dredging up suitable Italian and having a laugh - it’s fun, in an exhausting way. The hotel is crazily built into the cliff/face above Sorrento and turns out to be five minutes away from the one we stayed in before. It’s also lovely - our room is a joy. The clouds of midday melted to a beautiful late afternoon and we had our (delicious) dinner overlooking the Bay of Naples.
Right now I’ve been on the go for 17 hours and have nearly dropped my phone three times as I keep falling asleep.
A domani!
