Blackbird Singing In The Dead Of Night...
I have long dreamt of capturing the blackbird singing In the evening, silhouetted against the moon.
Unbelievably tonight, it happened.
We were sitting on the patio, after a long day. I had been to visit and tend my mum's grave. Thirteen years ago she finally succumbed to the cancer that she had bravely fought for years. She died with dignity, peacefully, with my younger brother at her side, holding her hands as the life slipped from her tortured body.
On my elder brother's fifty ninth birthday.
So his sixtieth birthday coincided with the first anniversary of her death.
Not a great time for him to celebrate ..
And while I was with my mum, in spirit, my wife was with her father. Ninety five years old and finally in a care home, and being very well cared for, at a thousand pounds a week.
So we settled in for a quiet evening of reflection, and contemplation. And wine.
We were surrounded by birdsong. Dunnock, Blackbirds, Robin and chattering Sparrows.
It was very special, and when the moon came over the treetops, and the Blackbird alighted at the highest point, I could not believe my luck.
How I managed to get the camera, change lenses, get the settings right, and compose the short I will never know.
Maybe mum was smiling down on me...
Have a great weekend everyone. I hope your stars align like mine did for me tonight!
