Pastures
Today’s walk took me out along Moorside to the white house and, down across the Low Springs pastures to Spring Wood, along through the woods to the stepping stones and then back up the hill. Today’s subject was waiting for me at the foot of the pastures, and I think may have been the subject of a previous blip.
My wildlife highlight was hearing a Cuckoo in Spring Wood. There were a fair few butterflies about: Peacock, Green Hairstreak, Large White, Small White, Green-veined White, Orange-tip, Speckled Wood, Holly Blue and Small Tortoiseshell. It’s been a few weeks since I’ve had a new species for the year but there should be some along shortly - it’s generally agreed the butterfly year is running two or three weeks ahead of schedule.
Later, more music at a new venue for me down in Shipley. The people who run The Live Room in Saltaire are now promoting for a smaller venue, the back room of Hullabaloo. The room is a bit of a squash and a squeeze, partly because they are seated, but the music was good. We started with Susannah Clegg, a new, Lancaster-based, singer-songwriter in the Americana vein - she had a song about the next street along from where I used to live so I was easily won over. The headliner was David Ramirez, a singer-songwriter from Austin with six albums to his name. His songs seemed very personal. A good evening.
