British Legion evening

My blips are in a real mess as I could not download from my mobile but now I have had success with some of them but not all of them so I have a huge gap to sort and have been unable to finish my Madeira photos for some reason!

The local branch of the British Legion put on a fundraising wine and cheese evening in the village hall with the Royal Naval Volunteers Band from our local naval air station, plus two Royal Marine drummers who were excellent.  The band are made up with some musicians still serving in the Navy and some retired.  The conductor joined the Royal Marines decades ago.
Most of the guests were in the upper age group who could remember the end of the war in their youth, or people like us who were post war babies!
I was brought up in my early years in Weymouth and have recollections of picking our way through the bomb sites either to the local shops or going down town, and the buddliea sprouting out of the brickwork and the scent of wallflowers.
