Enduring
Fora few days we are staying in Overton, a few miles away from Lancaster. The village was listed in the Domesday Book (1086) under the name Overton. Today it is an eclectic mix of old cottages, the “hall”, a couple of pubs, a mix of more modern 20th century housing, and some more recent more tasteful restorations.
It’s ideal for visiting the family and having space to be outside.
The weather has been stunning. Our grandson even felt their dog needed protection.
The village contains what is claimed to be the oldest church in Lancashire, St Helen’s Church with parts dating from the 12th century. It also is a site for the Commonweath War Graves. On what felt like a summer’s evening it was very tranquil.
Lots of VE commemoration visible in the village. The main picture is of the knitted top on the post box. Given the long spell of dry sunny weather it has endured well.
