Minimally bothersome
It was showery again today in Brisbane. During a dry spell, I photographed a poinsettia flower in the garden. Originating in Mexico and Central America, they are named for American botanist Joel Robert Poinsett who, quoting Wikipedia, was the first US minister to Mexico .. (and) ... is credited with introducing the plant to the US in the 1820s.
My title today comes from the Wikipedia article's discussion of the plant's reported toxicity - it concludes that it's merely minimally bothersome. Which is fortunate since, again quoting Wikipedia, poinsettias are popular Christmas decorations in homes, churches, offices, and elsewhere across North America ... and ... each year in the US, approximately 70 million poinsettias are sold during Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons.
