Have you seen the little piggies?
Wild boar in the road around tea time -18.15 to be accurate. Not a great photo - they were too busy eating to turn around! Quite a few mammas and babies - so cute. The piglets have a zigzag stripe which they lose as they mature.
Well there is rather sad and yet not sad news today. I realised mid week that fostering Tramp is not going to work out. He is a sweetheart in many ways and a very easy dog to care for - really rather a darling, BUT he absolutely hates cats - I mean really hates cats, so not only has life been difficult this week - but he's teaching Rufus by demonstration, to chase them, which of course is unacceptable for me and the cats in my life. The two dogs have not really got on with each other which also has exacerbated a tricky situation so last night I wrote to Tramp's parents and told them that they need to come and get their boy. They replied almost immediately and we arranged 11am today. I felt quite sad and guilty - until they arrived when the sheer joy and excitement of the little dog at seeing his humans with whom he's lived for ten years was almost as heart warming as the tears in Susan's eyes. She told me it has been a very difficult week without him. Yes, they do have a long term problem of being able to care for their dog, and yes I will still try to help, but no, he can't live with Rufus and me - he needs to be with them and they need him too. So I waved goodbye with an overall feeling that this was the right thing for everyone.
Knowing that they would come at 11am, a little after 9am Lucy (my neighbour) and I took both dogs for a lovely long excursion for an hour and a half (extra) along the Akbuk sea front stopping at a little cafe for coffee (extra). Looks a very pretty place so we would like to go again one evening when they have live music.
The rest of the day, was a bit of shopping, dog walking (and watching wild boar have supper) and then a very long evening of proof reading and editing my niece's almost finished dissertation until I could hardly see straight well after midnight. Maddy's work is good but her word count is an issue, so I am cullling the finished chapters. Well, suggesting where to cull because all final decisions must be hers.
Feeling simultaneously sad, relieved, guilty and a bit happy at Tramp so happily going home to his owners - I hope they find a solution.
