Day 4; The rain in Spain …
.... is an utter pain.
It came with a vengeance. We’re about to set off for the last event of the wedding celebrations - a meal and farewell - when the dam bursts. We have a taxi booked - it’s parked across the road and we’re soaked before we even get in it.
Because there are so many of us, the tables are set up outside. As we arrive staff are putting up umbrellas, awnings - anything to keep the rain off. They sweep the water from the paths, but it’s all to no avail.
The venue is a sports bar - half dozen or so men are watching football on a big screen. Barcelona versus Real Madrid. They’re not too pleased when the staff start bringing tables and chairs in from outside and behind them, bedraggled strangers. A few of us manage to find somewhere to sit, the rest stand, blocking the TV screen. It’s about an hour before the rain stops and the mess outside cleaned up.
Not quite the farewell party that Chris and Rose had envisaged, but it’s good enough. People have clearly had a good time over the past few days, catching up with friends and family that they may not have seen for a long time. One of Chris’ old school friends made the journey from Australia and we’re especially glad that Dan, Varnika and Yashi were able to come from India.
We’ll not forget it. Nor will Chris and Rose.
