Life's Little Moments

Mothers Day

I didn’t pick up a camera today but I did check all the nest boxes and took quick snaps with my phone. Very pleased to find the first bluebird egg has been laid (and the first house wren egg as well but it’s not as pretty). This seemed a fitting blip in honor of all the mothers out there, especially mine!

My mom is a pretty remarkable woman. She was just 20 when she and dad got married in her hometown in Arizona. They spent their honeymoon enroute to Alaska where my dad had a job with the Weather Bureau. They were stationed in some very remote places, in government housing and far away from family. I know it must have been hard at times, but mom always made it seem like a great adventure. She had me about 18 months after they married, again far from family and friends. She home schooled me when we lived on a remote island off the gulf coast of Alaska for 3 years, always seeming like she took it all in stride. Which I think is part of being a good parent - not letting your kid know if you’re scared, lonely or whatever. She always made me feel safe and loved.

Love you, mom!
