Happy Mother’s Day to all of you moms. Tom set up these two pictures of our moms. There was a bad glare off the picture of my mom on the right, so I added it to the lower picture.

We both had amazing moms. Tom’s mom was a health and PE teacher, and a head track and girls basketball coach. Such a great lady, and such a great mother for Tom, and a great mother in law for me. My mom began race walking in her mid 60s. She got REALLY GOOD. She race walked all over the world, and held the Oregon state record for her age group for a long time. She might still hold them. More importantly to me, she is the reason I went on to teach English, and to write. She read to me for hours and hours and hours every day, and instilled in me a love for books and writing. She could have been a poet or teacher herself, but sadly she wasn’t encouraged to do that.

We miss them dearly, but they are with us every day. Happy Mothers Day to you all.
