Optimistic
Look what popped into my trolley in Aldi this morning. A gooseberry bush. It says it’s going to have red gooseberries. Time will tell. It was only £1.99 so it isn’t a major investment.
I had no gooseberries last year (well, if you don’t count the three undersized ones I finally picked in frustration). The bushes were in pots and early this year, I transplanted four out of the five plants into a flower bed.
A rose which had been awful was in this spot. I took out the remains and watered in my little bargain. It’s next to the peony that hated its pot so maybe they will grow together (among the spreading Welsh Poppies).
The Aldi car park is perfect for our local library. And I couldn’t resist a bottle of each of their two beautiful rose wines.
One, the very discounted Provençal Pejac, was recommended by the lady on Saturday Kitchen.
Their “unearthed” Bulgarian Thracian Valley Pinot Noir Rose, is delicious (recommended by the bloke on the same programme and I rarely share his taste.)
I won’t keep them to accompany the gooseberry crumble…..
