Sawfly

My gooseberries are being attacked by the gooseberry sawfly.  These little guys eat the leaves then move up the stem and eat more leaves.  Eventually the gooseberry stalk is stripped leaving only the skeletons of leaves.  It is a sorry sight.  They don't touch the fruit but, without the leaves, there is not much fruit around.  The remedy is pick off the sawflies and place them in a bucket of water with some disinfectant.  I do this in the morning, then again in the afternoon, then again next day,...  There won't be so much gooseberry jam this year.
