Gotcha

We picked up the rental car this morning and then used it to do a big shop in Tesco. It took ages — we find British supermarkets huge and confusing! At home we had ready-made curry for lunch, followed by some delicious English strawberries with clotted cream or yogurt.

We still can’t go to visit S’s mum — maybe tomorrow— and the weather is glorious again, so after lunch we decided to go to Helmsley. It was a very scenic drive up hill and down dale, although as I’m the designated driver I couldn’t really appreciate it as I was concentrating on driving on the left along winding country roads. I haven’t driven in the UK for a couple of years.

In Helmsley we enjoyed huge and delicious Yorkshire ice creams, and also found a much needed cash machine. Then rather than explore further we headed to the nearby National Bird of Prey Centre, housed in the park of a large country house. I was sure I could find a blip, and I wasn’t wrong although unfortunately I only brought the little camera with me. There was a flying display featuring a buzzard (blip), a hawk (extra), and a flock of eight kites. It should have featured a huge and magnificent owl too, but unfortunately it decided not to cooperate and after one circuit flew off to sit in a tree. Afterwards we wandered round viewing more of the hundred or so birds, and then headed homewards.

I am pretty tired from the driving, but S has gone off to do a bit of gym before dinner!
