Positive Effects

1915: Edith Wharton writes of the war's deleterious effects on France
Quote Of The Day
"If only we'd stop trying to be happy we'd have a pretty good time."
(Edith Wharton)
I had a lovely surprise on my train ride home from work today. After I sat down, the young lady in this photograph asked me if I was Mr. Lewis. Close. Mr. Lewington. She then told me her name, M, and that she graduated St. Michael's in 2010. She now works for an airplane manufacturing corporation (N.A.M.C., perhaps?) I remember teaching her younger brother, B, also.
M alighted at my station but she doesn't live near me, her bicycle was lost and returned close by my local station. We chatted a little more and then she said the nicest thing,
"I'd like to thank you for all those stories you read to me. It was foundational to my future academic career."
Well, what can I say. That is why I do what I do, hoping that I will have a positive effect on a few children who will form the next generation of adults. It certainly seems that way in M's case, and that's all I need to make me extremely happy.
Happy Days
