Shifters not shifting...

When I had my lovely '95 Marin repaired in 2023, they warned me that the gear shifters were reaching the end of the line. Today's ride sort of confirmed that although I could still fly up the hills even with limited gear options. It is such a light bike at just over 23lbs. 

I didn't want to believe it, because they are things of beauty that will be hard if not impossible to replace, like so many things.
