MV Wyre Estuary
Today's the day ..................... to keep an eye on
Nothing I like better than to sit on the quay of a busy harbour and watch the comings and goings of marine craft as they go about their business.
The busy harbour was at Eyemouth - and the above is the dredger MV Wyre Estuary - that I think was just coming back to port for lunch or maybe to change crew?! At any rate, according to the records, she started dredging 'the Canyon Entrance and Basin, followed by other areas of the harbour' on 7th of May 2025 - and any vessels entering or leaving the harbour have to report in to check if there are any restrictions in place because of her.
Meanwhile, Will was on the cliffs at St Abbs Head in his capacity as NTS Trustee, being told all about the work that is going on by the wardens to keep an eye on the incredible variety of sea birds to be found there. The avian flu epidemic of a couple of years ago, took its toll on huge numbers of the birds - but slowly they are recovering. And there is even a new population of gannets, that may possibly have come from the Bass Rock in the Firth of Forth. Will has given me permission to put in a couple of extras that he took with the help of one of the big telescopes that they have there.
So much to discover and enjoy in this part of Scotland. We are already planning a return visit .....................!
