Lake View Cemetery
It is really great to have friends who like to hang out at cemeteries! We went to this cemetery this morning to check out some things. It was well worth the visit.
The large building is the tomb of President James Garfield who was from Ohio. He was assassinated after serving only six months of his presidency in 1881. The tomb is beautifully done with a large marble statue of Garfield. The windows are stained glass and depict the 13 original US colonies and there are also 4 mosaic friezes. A spiral staircase when up 3 stories to the top where the photo of the Cleveland skyline was taken.
There were many mausoleums that looked like Hobbitt houses as many were built into the hillsides.
There were also an abundance of sculptures on the ground and at graves. The man with the guitar was one as well as the woman reading. Miscellaneous items were also seen such as the guitar pick.
Next we went to the Rockefeller greenhouses and Iris garden. Every color of Iris was blooming. They were also selling irises in pots so 3 pots left with me to add to the iris bed at home.
Also added a few birdshots to the extras on yesterday’s post.
