Walk around Campus
You may remember that I teach a Plant ID (Summer Annuals and Perennials) at our local college in the summer. It's a three-credit class for the Landscape Technology Student, and generally speaking we have a grand time! In order to prepare for the class I need to know what plants made it through the winter, so today I went to campus with my list and walked through all of the gardens. Amazingly I found probably 95% of the perennials. The annuals obviously need to be purchased.
The main is a Rosa rugosa or what I would call a Beach Rose, being from the Massachusetts coast. It's not on my plant list but I love the fragrance of this rose. The pollinators were swarming it!
In the extras:
One VERY wet bee on a Barrett's Beardtongue - Penstemon barrettiae.
And the Calla Lilies - Zantedeschia aethiopica - are now in full bloom!
