Woolwich Dock

Today my walking group met up for the first time in several months and it was my turn to organise. I chose an historic walk in Hunters Hill, a sandstone peninsula a short ferry ride from Sydney Harbour's Circular Quay. Post British settlement it became an industrial area. By mid 19th century, three Frenchmen saw its residential potential and, combined with the gold rush and Italian immigrant stonemasons, did much to develop what is now a very affluent suburb with Australian, French and Italian influences in its architecture.

Proceeding around the shoreline we came across Woolwich Dock. At 188 metres long and 27 metres wide, it took four years to carve out and was once the largest dry dock in Australia. Today some ritzy yachts were docked there including participants in the Sydney to Hobart annual race. My photo is taken from the end of the dock.

Oh and I achieved more than 15,000 steps. Suitably wrecked now.

Thanks for hosting Bob.
