As the lily among thorns

"As the lily among thorns, so is my love among the daughters." (Song of Songs)

Seeing this lily reminded me of one of the most sublime experiences I have ever had in choral groups, singing Vidi speciosam by Victoria, which has an unforgettable repetition of the words "et lilia, et lilia" from the Song of Songs. I do recommend Stile Antico's recording (on their CD "Song of Songs", a collection of Renaissance motets on texts from the book).

This lily was in the wonderful herbaceous borders of Hampton Court Castle Gardens, in Herefordshire, where we went today with the Abergavenny Walking for Health group.
