a lifetime burning

New Blue

Investigating the pond this morning, to see what was coming out of it, I was largely assuming that I would see Large Red Damselflies.  So this blue took me by surprise as I really was not expecting to see it.  It has emerged only this morning and was waiting for its wings to harden.

The slight breeze meant that it was unable to skitter around to the back of the grass stem to hide from me, as it was too busy making sure that its wings didn't get damaged. If you look to the insects' left you can see a tiny fly perched next to it.  That fly is probably pushing its luck a bit as it is likely to end up as a nice little snackerel once this damsel gets around to hunting for food.
