The end is in sight?

The Tree Peony flower has collapsed and some petals have already fallen. I imagine  the the centre should form  a seed pod, but  I have never seen one before as the pods tend to rot away given the normal amount of rain we experience. This year might be different? A warm sunny day with highs in the low 20's
