Out and About

Sir John Soane

A trip to London in advance of a lunch tomorrow. Gives me a chance to play tourist. This is the inside of the home of the celebrated architect who filled his home to.the brim with his collection of art, sculpture, furniture and artifacts. . It is quite an unexpected sight, so many items crammed into the house, no labels, just as it was when he died and left it to the nation. I went  inside to complete a 'Virtual" geocache.  I had to find certain items in the museum ,  answer questions, email the answers to the cache owner and take photos.
I commented to one of the guides that there seemed to be a lot of plunder. She reassured me  that Soane himself had not done any plundering  , everything had been bought on the art market, including a giant Egyptian sarcophagus,  a lot of the stone items were actually casts and no nation had asked for any items back.
Virtual caching also took me to the Foundling Museum but I was too late to go in. There's a Tracey Emin sculpture of a mitten on the railings outside,  extra.

This replaces my original blip for today because it will better remind me of this trip.
