Can’t see the wood for the feckin people
Whilst she was in the thick of the forest, she hadn't noticed individual trees. But as she came to the fringes, where the trees were more scattered, she started to notice their individual characteristics. She was aware enough to realise that the same was probably true of her perceptions of people. But, as far as people were concerned, she was still in the deepest, darkest part of the woods - even here, in the actual woods, where there weren't any people at all.
