A Day at Glamis Castle
What a beautiful day to visit the ancestral home of Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, the mother of Queen Elizabeth. (Henry navigated.) The flag at the castle was at half mast for the Dowager Countess of Strathmore who recently died at the age of 92. Her lying in is tonight at the castle and her funeral is tomorrow. She was a childhood friend of the late Queen and lived at the castle. I took a tour of the amazing castle and learned about three of the ghosts who haunt the halls. (It is the most haunted castle in Scotland.) I lost track of Henry who scampered off with is selfie stick to capture a ghostly apparition in the old dungeon. He later ran off to the Macbeth trail and found the sculpture of the three witches. (I need to keep him on a lead!) Shakespeare is said to have used Glamis (pronounced “Glahms”) as the inspiration for his play Macbeth. We had a delicious lunch and are now home. Time for a glass of wine!
