Time to go home so we took a roundabout route that took us up to Tarn Hows, a truly beautiful small, man-made lake tucked above Comiston Water. Then the ferry across Windermere before crossing over to Kirkby Lonsdale (memory lane for us) and then back home.

Sadly, Tarn Hows is suffering with Phytophthora ramorum, a virus affecting Larch trees. It can attack and kill other trees so landowners are required by law to fell all larch trees within 100m of each infected tree. So, whilst stunningly beautiful, it does look a little sparse in places.
