Allan Bank, Grasmere

William and Dorothy Wordsworth’s home from 1808 to 1811 and the home of various other literary types too as well as Cannon Rawsley on of the founders of the National Trust. This view would have been enjoyed by the Wordsworths and all who live here.

And it was enjoyed by us as we sat in the sun, out of the cooler breeze chatting to friends from Grange for over three hours. Alan and Irene moved to Grange in 2009 and have not looked back. I’ve known them these 30 years when Irene was head of maths and I was deputy head, sometime head of a school in Gillingham. We’ve all aged well.

After we’d talked out they went back to Grange and we did a short stroll around Grasmere crossing the main road and climbing up to the Coffin Route which we followed back to Grasmere.
