Sometimes a list is the way to go

I spent some time yesterday making schedules to enable me to do all of the things I need to do before I hit 95. These only work for me if I have a jackboot over my head, so I wasn’t overly confident in the use of what I was doing… yet, it started off well today. I’m trying to devise a website that I can use to send potential clients to – where it explains the services being offered and essentially gives me an excuse to prospect. The world has changed dramatically for translators in the past 18 months.

The evening was once more dedicated to Ottawacker Jr.’s football. A parents’ meeting had been called at the same time as the practice (which was a good way of ensuring most people attended). I dread these meetings: they are full of “you should be doing this” and “we need people to do this” – mostly the latter. I find it hard not making eye contact for 90 minutes, which seems to be the minimum time these meetings last. I was, however, pleasantly surprised. Aaron – the lead coach for the age group – had had the brilliant idea of holding the meeting standing up in the car park – which meant all unnecessary comments were cut to a minimum. We were done and dusted inside 30 minutes, which gave me time to drive to the LCBO to  pick up my order of wine, and then get back to watch the end of the practice.

In the end I didn’t do that either. I bumped into a couple of friends of mine – Peter Mapendere and Roy Hillier – and just spent 30 minutes catching up. A very pleasant catch-up it was too – as we are all veterans of the club and had a lot of reminiscing. I even missed Ottawacker Jr. wandering by with an ice cream sandwich in his cheeks. He looked like a chipmunk.

Home, where he showered and I made him a banana bagel sandwich.
