Scotchgate

Or Rickergate. Formerly the gate on the east side of Carlisle dating back to the 16th century.
It was then known as the Malt Shovel public house. The building we see today was erected in 1928.
In my student days it was The Malt Shovel, a type of Night club, changing to Adrianos restaurant at some point after 2003.

Our history teacher took us there in 1978 and you could see a tariff on the wall outside for goods being brought into the old city.

I went for my contact lens appointment and they hadn’t got me down for one so I did a food shop instead.
I’ve done a bit of ironing and watered the garden. No sign of any rain yet.
