Glamis Castle...
Today we took P on our much anticipated trip to Glamis Castle.
Glamis Castle is the childhood home of the Queen Mum and where Princess Margaret was born in 1930. Unfortunately the Castle isn't wheelchair accessible (I shall forgive them since it was built in 1400) so whilst D and P took the tour of the Castle I enjoyed a video tour of it in a little downstairs turret room. All very interesting.
Met up again with D & P and we went to the cafe for lunch, which we all enjoyed. P had hoped to hire a mobility scooter to tour the grounds and get to the Italian Garden. Unfortunately it was being serviced so was unavailable, so while she sat in the sunshine D and I headed to the Italian Garden to get some photos to share with her.
I am so glad it's been warm weather for a couple of weeks as the path down into the Italian Garden is through woodland on a stone chipped path but the hot days had hardened the ground making it a bit easier for my wheels to negotiate.
We passed the MacBeth trail (Shakespeare's MacBeth was Thane of Glamis) and the fabulous wood carvings of the Three Witches. The Italian Garden is beautiful. Our favourite features were the beech tree avenues, so intricate and lovely shade from the sun. We will definitely return. More pics in extras.
Back to the Castle to get P, a quick stop at the gift shop then in to the car and home. Some wine and nibbles in the garden then quiche, salad and Jersey Royals for dinner.
Tomorrow we are staying more local visiting various places in the Strathearn valley. More sunshine forecast. Apparently this lovely weather is due to break just after P flies back to the USA. She couldn't have picked a better time for her visit.
PS The flag is flying at half mast due to the recent death of Mary, Dowager Countess of Strathmore, age 92. Her funeral takes place at Glamis Castle tomorrow.
