Sedbergh Bookclub

Yet another lovely day. We had my Sedbergh WI Bookclub meeting this afternoon. Only had 4 attendees, but we still had a great discussion. We had been readingThe Cut Out Girl by Bart Van Es. I found it to be a book of two halves. According to the blurb it was the story of a Jewish girl in Amsterdam during WW2.  Its title was based in the fact that she kept a scrapbook and a lot of pictures from her scrapbook appeared in the book. A very thought provoking book, written by the grandson of the family who hid her. I felt it wasn’t just her story, it was a mixture of three, as he also covered what was happening in his own family at the time, warts and all! And also told the story of how he wrote the book after re establishing links between the two families.  It did cover aspects not covered in other similar books, so it was an interesting read.
