Living my dream

Burnt

This is the hillside of gorse which went up in flames yesterday morning. It is a huge burnt area, just a kilometre from Chez M&B, so I'm very glad the fire service got here and dealt with it quickly.

I should have said yesterday that I was less nervous than I expected to be about the proximity of the fire, largely because all the vegetation is wet hereabouts, and other than gorse not much of it is currently flammable. In addition the soil moisture is 98%, so there won't be much (if any) underground smouldering.

All that notwithstanding I am very happy that there is no sign of fire or smoke today.

I've barely glanced at the internet today, which has been a lovely break. The good weather is set to change tonight, so I have been making the most of it, spending most of my time outside.

I have mowed grass, line-trimmed grass and weeds, walked Bean for ages, split some firewood, and hand-weeded around some of the newish native trees which have been swamped by grass. In between these things I have made a Stirred Curd Cheddar cheese.

One of those busy happy days.
