Who bent my pole??

My main job today was to sort out our anemometer.  Recently it has been playing up in high wind gusts, and walking Biskit home through the field on Wednesday I noticed that the top pole and anemometer looked decidedly bent.

So this afternoon down with the pole and – things were worse than I had imagined. The extension at the top of the main pole shows signs of being hit hard at the top by something heavy bending it in two directions, and the spindle of the cups (the bit that spins round) was severely bent.  Heaven knows what it was, we hadn’t notice anything – silly but it is Saturday.

I managed to straighten the spindle, but whether or not it will work properly I don’t know yet; and I attached the anemometer direct to the main pole – a bit low but it will do for the moment.  Just time now to see if it recovers.
