Greater Manchester Swim

This time last year these ladies had never been wild swimming. We all joined the WI and last Thursday we celebrated our first year. At our second or third meeting I did a little presentation and said I would take anyone who fancied trying wild swimming on a taster session. Well, this lovely bunch have become as obsessed as I am. On the first visits to Redbrook they got in tentatively, they dunked down, gasped at the cold water and got out. But….with each week they did more and more. We swam through Winter, we swam in wind, snow and gales. We shivered, we laughed, we froze, we nearly had our knickers blow away across the moors but we formed a great strong friendship.

I persuaded them to enter the Greater Manchester Swim and in glorious sunshine we swam it today. The promise of a medal was a big factor and you can see how proud we all are in the photo. It was a shame that Louise is injured and Ruth is preparing for her holiday as they would have loved this too. Our WhatsApp group is called the Super Seven and today we were most definitely super. Afterwards we talked of other events we want to enter and longer distances. What a fantastic day.
