Trixie's Adventures

Back on my rock....& Eurovision Song Contest

It's been another 'scorchio' day, so when Ann finished work, she took me down to Porthgwidden Beach so that we could chillax for a while on our rock. Ann likes to think that she's like 'Shirley Valentine', but actually she's about 20 years older than Shirley Valentine was when the film was made. Anyway, it was a bit cloudy on our rock, so after about an hour or so, we came home and sat on our very sunny sun terrace.

…................And then we came indoors to discover that the 'Eurovision Song Contest' is on TV. OMG?! That brings back so many memories for my human.

In 1972 (53 years ago) she was a 13 year old teenager when the 'New Seekers' represented the Eurovision Song Contest in Edinburgh at the Usher Hall, with the song. 'Beg, Steal or Borrow'.' They came 2nd.

After the results had been announced, Ann's Dad, said that if they had won, he would have driven her into Edinburgh city centre to see them arriving at the Assembly Rooms in George Street for the 'after show' party. Ehhh, no he wouldn't. He just said that!!! There's no way he would have driven Ann into the middle of town at 10.30pm at night to see popstars arriving.

However, Ann was one of the hundreds of teenage kids that hung around outside the Caledonian Hotel (where the New Seekers were staying) before the  Eurovision Song Contest. In retrospect, Ann was only 13/14 years old and her mother had let her go into the centre of a city to stand outside a hotel all day long, waiting for popstars to leave/arrive. Would parents allow their kids to do that these days? Mmmmm................. when Ann arrived home at 6pm (after hanging around outside the Caledonian Hotel for more than 8 hours) and told her mum she was going back there at 10.30pm (because rumour had it they were arriving back then), her mother hit the roof??!!! …...............And obviously banned her from going out again. Ann was distraught. She sat on the kitchen stool and cried and cried and cried because she thought her mother was ruining her chances of ever marrying 'Marty Kristian'. Her mother said she was hysterical and she should 'get a grip'.

Obviously my human never married Marty Kristian!!!

..................And the Eurovision Song Contest is still going on................  My human has lost the will to live.  Soon it will be bedtime. Lol!!!
