An ordinary life....

A birthday, a Kirk and The Weird Sisters…

But not necessarily in that order :-)

Our guest P’s birthday was another bright and sunny day. Her entire three week holiday in Scotland has been wall to wall sunshine and is set to continue til she leaves on Thursday. We think she should stay!

Today’s adventures took us to Perth Museum to see the Macbeth exhibition. It’s fabulous! Horrifying to read of all those women murdered in Perthshire (and a few men) after being accused of witchcraft.

We then had a lovely lunch in the museum cafe before exploring other sections.

From there we crossed to St John’s Kirk. It was here on 11th May 1559 John Knox preached his sermon against idolatry in St. John’s Kirk. The congregation was so inflamed that they stripped the Kirk of its ornaments and then stormed out of the church and sacked Perth’s wealthy religious houses, and set alight the Scottish Reformation. It’s absolutely stunning inside and I could definitely feel the weight of all its magnificent history. It was also a cool refuge against the heat outside.

We then headed home to the Gin Palace to crack open a bottle of fizz to toast P’s birthday. P and I relaxed there a while till it was time to get ready and head to The Cairn for her birthday dinner.

We had a lovely evening in The Cairn. Great food and good laughs. And P found out the sculpture of the man sitting on the bench in the grounds of the Cairn is none other than Mark Twain! A little American connection :-)) A memorable day with lots of laughter.

Happy Birthday P! :-))
