The Pensioner

I wasn’t far from here for most of the day. Apart from when I went up to fix myself the tiniest baguette, with jamon y queso sort of thing. Somewhere in the fridge we had a small pack of Roquefort; I remember as I’d popped it into the supermarket trolley. No sign of it at all. Wasn’t it Feta asked a baffled SK. No, definitely Roquefort. Weird, I said, are you sure you didn’t eat it? Daft question, of course not. But as I persisted I could see the wheels of memory start to whirr….
I had the Feta.
Later, I stepped over the beach to watch the cup final daan saath. And what a thrilling spectacle it was. Tense or what. And for the Palace fans, paradise. As another underdog supporter at too many big games, I cheered them on. The dog has its day.
