MARY ANNINGS.

Mary Anning pioneering palaeontologist and fossil collector. She spent her life searching for fossils and in 1823, at the age of 24 discovered the first complete skeleton of a plesiosaur. Mary was a pioneering woman she lived in a mans world but was not regarded as an equal due to her  working-class status. Ever after her death in 1847, from breast cancer, aged just 47, her significant contributions faded behind others as they rose to prominence and fame. Today, through this statue, we celebrate her legacy and contribution to palaeontology.
