Exploring some extremities

We planned to drive south-west for a day but decided against going as far as Land’s End. Instead, we headed for St Ives to do a bit of exploring. We were fortunate to come across the Park and Ride car park and left the driving down the steep, narrow streets to the bus driver. After a short walk along the busy front road we retreated to the narrow back streets and found a lovely wee cafe for a tasty coffee. We then walked round to the next bay and the small Porthgwidden Beach. From there we climbed up to The Lookout (view from here in extra) where the Coastwatch is based and had an interesting chat with the two “watchers” who told us about their role.
From St Ives we headed down to the south coast of Cornwall to the town of Penzance. We found this quite disappointing and, in retrospect, I would rather have spent more time in St Ives. We cut our losses and headed back to our beautiful campsite for a peaceful evening.
