Whilst waiting for another replacement phone with a hopefully slightly better camera (and a significantly less knackered battery and a non-rapidly-overheating brain) I might try and use the slightly fiddlier camera app for anything which would usually be written off as too dark. If it could force a particular lens/sensor it would be even more useful.
