Sadly, what looks like sharp focus on a relatively non-wide lens on the phone display just turns out to be aggressive manipulation. Also, the colours don't seem to be able to be regulated and there doesn't seem to be a way to stop video from having huge banding artefacts even at the highest resolution. The glare from the rounded edges of the screen could have perhaps been borne, but it looks like trying to get an uncomplainable camera without going all the way up to flagship level is a dead end; I'll send this mid-range back and go back to cheapish, but one on which a teardown indicates that the battery can be replaced by the user without having to unplug lots of delicate little ribbon cables and the battery removed without having to delicately heat lots of patches of glue.
