“Neither a borrower nor a lender be” appears in Act I, Scene 3 of William Shakespeare's Hamlet. The quote is spoken by Polonius, Ophelia's father, and King Claudius' chief minister. This well-known quote is part of a long monologue that contains several other seemingly good pieces of advice.
